Hillel Foundation Endowment

 


The Foundation continues its mission of developing and managing assets to provide for the long-term economic viability of Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh. Monies from the Foundation are invested in perpetuity to yield accumulated annual interest. The dividends from these endowed funds will be allocated to ease the operating budget and escalating costs related to operating the school. Establishing an endowment will yield personal tax benefits, but will also create a beautiful legacy that benefit the future needs of children who are attending Hillel Academy. Your gift will ensure a brilliant future an environment where an exemplary Judaic and Secular education can be taught.

Naming Opportunities: All endowments will be prominently recognized on a single plaque in a highly visible location within Hillel Academy.

Dean of Hillel Academy- Endowed Chair of Dean provides the school with the educational vision, administrative policies and procedures, long and short term fiscal guidance and perhaps most importantly the spiritual direction for our outstanding institution. The Dean acts as a liaison to the community, promoting the educational goals and mission of Hillel Academy and building support among individuals, businesses and corporations.
Endowment: $1,000,000.

Principal of General Studies- Endowed Chair of Principal of General studies provides the administrative and curriculum leadership for all secular studies, grades 1-12 in the Mark L. Rosenblum Elementary School and Abe & Helen Ohringer High School.
Endowment: $250,000

Principal of Judaic Studies- Endowed Chair of Principal of Judaic studies provides the administrative and curriculum leadership for all Judaic education, grades 1-12 in the Mark L Rosenblum Elementary School and Abe & Helen Ohringer High School.
Endowment: $250,000

Pre-School Director- Endowed Chair of Pre-School Director oversees all aspects of the NAEYC accredited Jean & Lillian Goldstein Pre-School. The director supervises teams of teachers and aides from our smallest two-year-olds through our kindergarten students. Director monitors progress of each child and acts as a resource for staff and parenting development.
Endowment: $150,000

High School Advisor- Endowed Chair of High School Advisor is to ensure the educational, spiritual and emotional success of the high school girls, grades 9-12, enrolled in the Abe & Helen Ohringer High School. The advisor meets regularly with students, providing information and guidance in selecting their next Torah institution upon graduation.
Endowment: $100,000

Siddurim- Endow the purchase of new Siddurim and Chumashim which are used by every child during their daily services. Each year, first graders are presented with their own Siddur during a Consecration service. The heartwarming moment of the first grader being presented with their own siddur is a moment of great pride and joy, and holiness. From their eye-opening smiling faces come the sweet words of the Shema. A dedication plate for each book will be designed to commemorate the naming rights for this project.

Morning Minyan- The taste of devotion to G-d , their exposure to age-old melodies and customs and practices are observed during this daily service. Facilitating a comfort with the shacharis and mincha service, our children learn to be leaders anywhere in the world at any age.
Endowment: $25,000

Academic and Judaic Programs- The endowment of each of these learning areas will provide the necessary educational materials, resources and teacher training to enhance and ensure the highest level of Secular and Judaic learning.

Faculty Position- The endowment of a faculty position for each of the above General and Judaic Programs will honor a teacher and guarantee that the highest level of teacher education and professionalism are available to our school.

Teacher Recognition:
Donald & Chantze Butler Award- Each year at the Annual Dinner in June, a monetary prize is awarded to a teacher(s) who exemplifies the goals and mission of Hillel and has won the love and respect of students and fellow professionals.

Creating an endowment or scholarship fund in honor or in memory of a loved one is central to the mission of Hillel of ensuring that every child can receive a Jewish education regardless of their family’s financial situation. Multiple opportunities exist to create full or partial scholarships that will enable students to be educated in an Orthodox Jewish Day School environment.

Shabbos Program – Throughout the course of the year, a number of school-wide and individual class Friday night dinners and Shabbatons are scheduled. Together, the students, parents and staff can enjoy the beauty of preparing for and sharing of a peaceful Shabbos.

Holiday Program – Each holy day is celebrated in its own unique way with grade-appropriate assemblies and in-class projects. Programs for i.e. Rosh Choddesh, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Pesach, Yom Ha’atzmaut, Yom Yerushaliyim etc. are important to instill the spirit of each holiday.

Middos Program – The teaching of middos (character traits) to our students is central to the core educational mission of our school. A curriculum was developed and introduced at each grade level to teach good manners, respect

Special Events – Every year a number of cultural, religious and educational functions are planned to encourage school/alumni support and community-wide awareness. In many cases these events help to raise necessary funds to subsidize our operating budget and scholarship fund. This endowment would assist in covering the cost of i.e. securing a speaker, advertising and printing, rentals, entertainment, food etc.

High School Social Action & Volunteer Program – Named- Of Blessed Memory
Aaron Sacks Gam Chai: This program promotes volunteer activities and projects for the high school girls both on a local level as well as in Israel

High School Trip to Israel – Multiple opportunities exist to create a full or partial scholarship that will allow our high school students to visit Eretz Yisroel and experience first-hand the history, language and culture that is taught in the classroom.
Endowment: $36,000

High School Musical – A bi-annual Broadway-style production that is adapted, produced and performed by the girl’s high school at a local community auditorium.
Endowment: $15,000

Literary Magazine – A yearly publication that compiles and highlights the creative writing efforts of the girls in grades 9 –12. This magazine is distributed to our families and community and is frequently submitted as part of a student’s college/seminary portfolio.
Endowment: $5,000

Field Trips – Throughout the course of the year, students in pre-school through grade 12 participate in a variety of educational, cultural and recreational activities outside the school. These trips necessitate rental of buses, cost of admission to venue and when appropriate, kosher snacks. Multiple opportunities exist to fund different excursions.

Website Development- Facts about the school, student activities, special events and alumni are easily accessed by logging on to www.hillelpgh.org Parents and perspective families can view and download registration forms and the student handbook. Contributions to the school can be made through this secured sight. Our web site was developed originally by funds provided by the Brent family. An up-to-date web site is a critical communications, marketing and recruiting tool.

Facility Maintenance – This endowment will help to subvent the operating budget for building maintenance and ongoing necessary repairs. Janitorial and grounds costs as well as internal and external repairs to the structure represent a significant

Security- A security camera is currently in place at the front entrance with a monitor in the Administrative Office. Updated and additional equipment will ensure a safe and secure environment for our children.
Endowment: $75,000

Information Technology – In addition to our computer teaching lab, every classroom and administrative office in the school is wired to central mainframe in the school. It is essential for both learning and managing and maintaining the business of the school to regularly replace our computers and update our information technology base.

Alumni Of The Year Recognition –Hillel graduates are an important asset to our school and the communities to which they belong. In every way, their personal and professional accomplishments are far reaching. Through the Hillel Alumni Association, our goal is to network, confer and acknowledge the accomplishments of our alumni. Alumni are encouraged to actively participate in both school and alumni related functions. Beginning in June 2006, at our Annual Dinner, the Alumni of the Year will be announced.
