Hillel Academy is located in the heart of Squirrel Hill, a section of Pittsburgh located east of Downtown, a focal point of Jewish life in Pittsburgh. The greater Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh accounts for 47 percent of the entire Jewish population in the greater Pittsburgh area. The stability of Squirrel Hill, a geographic hub of the Jewish community located within the city limits, is unique in North America.
Squirrel Hill is home to a wide array of Jews of all backgrounds. In addition to a number of synagogues (including Poale Zedeck, Sha'are Torah, Young Israel, and Lubavich), Squirrel Hill is home to a a vibrant Kollel for advnaced learning, a Jewish Community Center, and a number of Kosher supermarkets and restaurants.
